“I have had back pain since I was 13 years old. I am now 35. I went to a (medical) doctor numerous times when I was young and I was always told something different. I strained my back, I pulled a muscle, I worked out too much. So eventually, I just stopped going to the doctor and pushed through it.
When I was young, this pain would appear and be gone within a few days, so I dealt with it. Over the years the frequency of the pain and the amount of time it took me to recover kept getting longer until December of 2012 when I hit my breaking point. I couldn’t walk, stand, sleep, sit, bathe, work, or any normal things everyone does on a daily basis, without excruciating pain. On a scale from 1 to 10.. I was at a 12 without moving a muscle. I landed in the ER and all they did was give me pain medications that didn’t work and sent me home.
My Aunt Ann gave me the idea to call a chiropractor and I literally picked up the phone book to that section and called the first number I saw. Thankfully, the first number I dialed was Baker Chiropractic and Wellness. I started seeing Dr. Paul Baker at the Red Bank branch and eventually started seeing Dr. Patrick Baker in Fairfield. In the beginning it was very slow going. I had so many people telling me I needed to see a medical doctor and have surgery. That was the last thing I wanted.
I had x-rays done and learned that my spine was curving in the wrong direction, in 2 places. And the lower curve was pinching my nerves causing sciatica pain in my left leg and foot. I was devastated, but the first thing Dr. Paul said was,”We can treat this. No surgery.” I almost didn’t believe him. But here I am. I’m walking, sitting, standing, and doing everything I couldn’t a few months ago. I still have therapy ahead of me. You can’t undo 20 years of damage in a few months.
I had a lot of people tell me that chiropractors don’t help. That they are unreliable and I needed to see someone else. I am proof that that isn’t true. I can say without a doubt, I probably wouldn’t be standing today if it weren’t for these wonderful people. I refer everyone I know to them. And I thank them all more than they will ever know.”*
