Fatigue and Fear of Falling from My Multiple Sclerosis Controlled My Life But Then I Was Given a Book from Dr. Baker That Changed Everything

Baker Chiropractic and Wellness Multiple Sclerosis Patient with Dr. Patrick Baker
Linda H. and Dr. Patrick Baker

On November 19, 2015 my daughter-in-law Valerie gave me a book to read. She said the book was from Dr. Patrick Baker at Baker Chiropractic and Wellness. Valerie was a patient of Dr. Patrick’s and when Dr. Patrick heard that I was suffering from Multiple Sclerosis he knew he could help me,  so he wanted me to see this book.

The book (Enlightening, Adjusting and Saving Lives) was full of real-life stories written by people who benefited from care at Baker Chiropractic and Wellness. Page 225 was book marked for me to read – Multiple Sclerosis. Not only did I read about the benefits of Chiropractic care for MS, I also found and read about several other conditions I was suffering with as a result of my MS (Back pain, numbness in my feet and legs, restless leg syndrome and urinary incontinence).

Valerie was getting awesome results from her chiropractic care so I knew this was something I had to do. The next day I called the West Chester office and on Monday November 23 I had an appointment with Dr. Patrick Baker.

I was diagnosed with Relapsing/Remitting MS in 2001 and have taken several medications over the years to limit the impacts of MS on my body. My MS slowly progressed over the years and in June 2015 my diagnosis changed to Secondary Progressive MS which means my MS will continue to progress (hopefully at a continued slow pace).

Prior to seeing Dr. Patrick I was having difficulty with my mobility. I have very little feeling from the waist down. The numbness throws off my balance and I was starting to fall a lot. There were times it took me 20 minutes or more if I was alone to figure out how to get myself up. I was also having difficulty getting up from a sitting position if there was nothing close for me to pull up on. My legs would get heavy and my back would hurt if I had to walk too far or stand for a period of time without something or someone to hold on to. I could not step up on a curb or go up steps if there was no handrail.

I wanted to be able to play with my grandchildren and take them places like the park or out to eat. I wanted to be able to go shopping at the mall instead of having to buy everything online. I have a cane, a walker and a scooter I can use but getting them in and out of the car just adds to the fatigue you are plagued with when you have MS and just thinking about having to do that makes you tired so you decide not to go. Fatigue and the fear of falling were starting to control my life and not in a good way.

I know a lot of people that have achieved great results with Chiropractic care and I always believed in Chiropractors and the work they could do when you were hurt or injured but I never thought they would be able to help with a disease like MS. I was wrong and I learned that quickly at Baker Chiropractic. They took the time to explain to me the benefits of corrective chiropractic care which does not just decrease the pain you may be having but it keeps your spine and central nervous system aligned properly so your body can heal itself. They found that I have several subluxations (misalignments) that have been there for 20+ years, long before I was diagnosed with MS. Getting them aligned properly is critical for good health.

Since I started seeing Dr. Patrick, Dr. Kelly (and the awesome massage therapists in their office) in November 2015 I was making good progress. My legs were not as restless as they used to be and I was starting to get some feeling back in my feet and legs which helped my balance. I had a little more stamina and could walk further or stand a little longer than I used to before the pain came back. 0n January 7th I got sick and major depression set in and I could not talk myself into going out of the house. As the days went by I knew I was losing the progress I had made and was mad at myself for not doing anything about it. When I finally forced myself to go back 5 weeks later I walked out a new person. One that realized how much she needs Baker Chiropractic and Wellness in her future.

Just walking into the office is therapeutic. Everyone is so friendly and upbeat and happy for you that you are there. You cannot leave there without a smile on your face because you feel good, energized and cared for. When you have limited mobility feeling good is everything!*
