Alzheimer and Dementia

Alzheimer and Dementia

As we age, a small amount of decreased memory and brain function can be expected. Dementia occurs when there is a significant loss of brain function associated with many types of diseases, including Alzheimers disease.

The most common mental problem affecting senior citizens today is Alzheimers disease. It’s a condition that gradually erodes memory, impairs speech and makes it nearly impossible to be self sufficient. It can turn people who once had strong, vibrant and out-going personalities into entirely different people.

Currently, it’s estimated that nearly 4.5 million people in the United States suffer from Alzheimer’s. That number is projected to jump to as much as 16 million people over the next thirty years.

It’s very important to stay physically and mentally active before and during the senior stage of your life. Research shows healthy lifestyles that include regular physical exercise; mental stimulation; social involvement and consumption of brain-friendly foods all play major roles in preventing or diminishing the loss of memory and brain function as we age.

Causes of Alzheimer

No single cause can be attributed to Alzheimer’s. Health research indicates that many factors affect the brain over time including lifestyle, environmental conditions and genetics.

Although a specific cause cannot be determined, the impact of Alzheimer’s disease on the brain is obvious. The disease damages and kills brain cells. When a healthy human brain is compared to one that has been damaged by Alzheimer’s, it clearly shows a reduction in both the number of brain cells as well as the connections between the remaining cells.

Our Approach To Alzheimers

Our chiropractic care focuses on the health of the central nervous system. The human brain is major organ in the central nervous system. Doctors of chiropractic are specifically educated and trained to identify and treat problems with the nerves of the human body. When your central nervous system is healthy, all systems of the body work properly.
A condition called a subluxation can impair or damage nerves throughout your body. We are able to precisely identify and remove subluxations. This restores the health of your nerves and the normal function of the systems within your body those nerves control.
In addition, we provide patients with professional guidance on living a healthy lifestyle.

The best feature about our chiropractic care is that it does not use harmful and expensive prescription drugs or surgery. It is safe and most of all, effective.
