Chest Pain

Chest pain may stem from cardiac problems but it can also be caused by many other conditions. Here are just a few:

Heartburn – Acid from within your stomach may wash up into the tube that runs from your mouth to your stomach. This tube is called the esophagus. The acid entering the esophagus causes pain and burning sensations typically felt in the middle of your chest.

Hiatal Hernia – With a hiatal hernia, part of the stomach moves up above your diaphragm into your chest region. It causes pain and pressure in your chest. The symptoms may be especially noticeable after eating.

Esophageal Problems – Problems with your esophagus can make swallowing uncomfortable and painful. Nerves can become pinched or muscles in the esophagus may spasm preventing food from moving through the esophagus and into the stomach properly.

Gallbladder or Pancreas Problems – Gallstones or inflammation in your gallbladder or pancreas can cause abdominal pain that spreads into your chest.

Muscles, Bones and Nerves – The muscles in your chest may become injured or strained causing pain. You may also feel pain in your chest from a bruised rib, a broken rib or a pinched nerve.

Pleurisy – The membrane that lines your chest cavity and covers your lungs becomes inflamed causing pain in your chest. The pain typically intensifies when you inhale or cough.

Anxiety and Panic Attacks – Anxiety is a condition whereby your body is preparing you to cope with an expected or perceived future event that you think may be uncontrollable or unavoidable. Anxiety is felt both mentally and physically. In order to deal with the pending threat or stress, your body goes into preparation mode, increasing blood pressure, heart rate and blood flow to muscles. Anxiety may lead to panic attacks which are sudden episodes of very intense fear that quickly develop and trigger physical reactions including chest pain.

Abdominal Pain

Abdominal pain is normally caused by some type of inflammation in your abdomen region as a result of some kind of injury or disorder. The blood supply to organs within the abdomen could become constricted or diminished which results in pain. Abdominal pain may also be caused by problems with muscles or nerves in the abdomen. If you are experiencing abdominal pain, it’s important to have the source of the pain correctly diagnosed as quickly as possible. At Baker Chiropractic, we know how to find the root of cause of pain. Once we know what the problem is, we can treat it the first time.

The doctors at Baker Chiropractic are very successful with treating many types of abdominal pain, without using prescription drugs or surgery. Here are a few examples of conditions that cause abdominal pain that we can help you with:

Irritable Bowel Syndrome – Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a very common condition that affects your large intestine (colon). Studies show that as many as 1 in 5 adults will suffer from IBS. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is very uncomfortable and causes pain, cramping, bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation.

Menstrual Cramps – Menstrual cramps are throbbing or cramping pains in the lower abdomen. Many women experience menstrual cramps before and during their menstrual periods. While menstrual periods and their related cramps are a normal discomfort, some women may experience very severe pain which impacts their ability to function.

Interstitial Cystitis – Interstitial Cystitis or IC is a condition that causes varying degrees of pain in your bladder and abdomen. The chances of IC developing in women are nearly ten times more than for men. The symptoms of interstitial cystitis vary from person to person but typically include urinary discomfort or a frequent and urgent need to urinate. Digestive Problems

A wide variety of digestive problems can be effectively treated at Baker Chiropractic. Similar to the respiratory conditions described above, digestive problems are something that Dr. Paul Baker is very passionate about. Dr. Paul suffered from debilitating stomach aches when he was 8 years old. His father took him to a cousin who was a doctor of chiropractic in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Paul’s cousin examined him and discovered a pinched nerve in the middle of Dr. Paul’s back which was causing his stomach pain. With a series of chiropractic adjustments, Dr. Paul’s stomach pain was resolved. From that point in time, Dr. Paul was on a mission to become a doctor of chiropractic. For over 20 years, he has been helping patients stricken with the painful effects of digestive problems. He may be able to help your digestive problem too.
