The doctors at Baker Chiropractic and Wellness are former athletes who competed at collegiate and professional levels. They understand what it takes for athletes to perform at peak levels and the importance of preventing and recovering from injuries.
Chiropractic care focuses on the health and function of the entire body, with particular emphasis on the skeletal system, muscular system and central nervous system. When the body’s central nervous system is optimized and 100% healthy, all systems within the body perform properly. When there are interferences (known as subluxations) in the central nervous system, the systems of the body are not able to function at peak levels which leave them susceptible to illness and injury.
Our chiropractic care for football players includes:
As most football players know, it’s hard to play the game without suffering some type of injury. Football related injuries primarily include the following:
The five (5) most common types of football-related traumatic injuries we see in our Cincinnati area chiropractic clinics include:
Given the high speed and physical contact associated with football, the above referenced areas of the body are subjected to injury. It’s important to properly target and diagnose the specific type of injury so the proper treatment can be implemented.
Football places stress and overuse on many parts of an athlete’s body. From the weight of football equipment to the constant demands of training, daily practices and playing in games, a football player’s muscles, bones, joints, tendons and ligaments are placed under a large amount of stress and overuse.
Back pain and muscle pain are the most common types of stress and overuse health conditions for football players. Our chiropractic care is highly beneficial for athletes in treating these types of conditions.
Heat related injuries are a major concern for football players, especially at the start of the football season when outside temperatures can be high. Muscle cramping is an early sign of a heat related injury. If not treated with fluid replacement and body cooling, there are risks of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Proper daily nutrition, hydration and fitness are essential elements in the prevention of heat related injuries. Our chiropractic care involves providing athletes with guidance on nutrition and exercise as well as teaching athletes to be aware of the signs of heat related injuries.
“I played with a left hamstring injury since playing college football at Washington University. I went to doctors all over the country to find out what was wrong, and none of them could figure out the problem in my hamstring. I went to Drs. Baker and they found a huge knot in my hamstring. They were able to release it and treat my hamstring problem.”
– Corey Dillon, Cincinnati Bengals 1997-2003
“Playing in the NFL was very physically demanding on my lower back. Over two years of getting adjusted by Drs. Baker, my lower back felt 100% better. My lower back is more flexible and strong. I’ve been injury free.”
