Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

As outlined above, the main symptoms of IBS are abdominal pain with either constipation or diarrhea. Many times, the constipation and diarrhea will alternate back and forth. Other common symptoms include bloating, gas and cramps.

Types of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome is generally classified into one of the following categories:

  1. IBS-C: Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation.
  2. IBS-D: Irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea
  3. IBS-A: Irritable bowel syndrome with alternating constipation and diarrhea
