Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis

What is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple sclerosis or MS is a disease in which the body’s immune system attacks and deteriorates the protective coating covering nerves. This protective coating is known as myelin.

When the myelin becomes damaged, it starts to interfere with the communication signals being sent throughout the body via the central nervous system. As MS progresses and advances, it can lead to significant communication problems between the brain and other parts of the body creating loss of movement, loss of speech, loss of vision and more.
Multiple sclerosis can develop at any age, but is most common in people between the ages of 20 and 40. Women are twice as likely to develop MS as men.
At Baker Chiropractic and Wellness, we have been helping people with multiple sclerosis for over 20 years. Our approach to MS does not involve prescribing drugs or medications. Rather, we approach multiple sclerosis by using our safe, proven and effective chiropractic care along with specific nutrition and exercise guidance. Please contact us by calling (513) 561-2273 or scheduling an appointment here on our website. We may be able to help you with MS.

What This Woman Who Has MS Says About Our Care

Cindy-and-Tony

“I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the early 1990s and my mobility gradually decreased for several years. Physical therapy routines and medications helped to suspend my physical decline at a point where I have limited mobility (use wheelchair, walker, hand-holds, etc.). After finding physical therapy alone was not enough to maintain my mobility, I decided to try chiropractic therapy. My neurologist is supportive of chiropractic treatment to manage the effects of MS, and I believe regular chiropractic treatments are allowing me to maintain my limited mobility by keeping the parts of my body I over-use or under-use in a flexible state rather than allowing them to atrophy. I have been treated regularly by Dr. Baker for about 15 years now, and this has helped me maintain my mobility at a stable level. These regular treatments also help to avoid and provide relief from occasional bouts of sciatic nerve pain (probably indirectly associated with the MS). I believe it likely I would be confined to a wheelchair without these regular chiropractic treatments. I have also observed a decrease in mobility with time when I am unable to receive my regular chiropractic treatments. I believe chiropractic treatments are making a significant difference in my quality of life with MS.”
