Cincinnati Area Osteoporosis Solutions

Osteoporosis is a disease in which your bones become weak and fragile. This happens as a result of losing bone tissue, not producing enough bone tissue or both. Bone is living tissue just like your skin. Similar to your skin, old bone tissue is constantly being replaced by new bone tissue. When your body does not generate enough new bone tissue to keep up with the loss of the old bone tissue or stops producing new bone tissue altogether, osteoporosis sets in.
As a result of the bone tissue loss, bones become weak and fragile which makes them prone to breaking or fracturing. In severe cases of osteoporosis, a person can break a bone simply by bumping into someone else.
At Baker Chiropractic and Wellness, we have been helping people with osteoporosis for over 20 years. Our approach to osteoporosis does not involve prescribing drugs or medications. Rather, we address osteoporosis by using our safe, proven and effective chiropractic care along with specific nutrition and exercise guidance.

How Common is Osteoporosis?

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, about 10 million Americans suffer from osteoporosis and another 34 million Americans are at a high risk for developing the disease primarily due to unhealthy lifestyles of poor nutrition and inadequate exercise.

Estimates show that about half of all women and up to a quarter of all men above the age of 50 will break a bone as a result of osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis Symptoms

Unlike many health conditions, no pain or other symptoms are usually experienced during the early stages of osteoporosis. You can’t “feel” the onset of osteoporosis. However, as the disease advances and bones weaken, many symptoms can develop including:

  1. Back pain from fractured or collapsed vertebrae
  2. Poor posture causing a person to be stooped or hunched over. This includes a health condition known as Forward Head Posture.
  3. Loss of height.
  4. Pain from bones that are easily broken or fractured. The most common bones susceptible to breaking from osteoporosis are hips, wrists and vertebrae of the spine.

OSTEOPOROSIS-stages

There are a number of factors that increase the risk of osteoporosis. These include the following:

  1. Sex: Women are much more likely to develop osteoporosis than men.
  2. Age: The higher your age, the higher the risk of contracting the disease.
  3. Abnormal Gland Activity: Overactive thyroid and adrenal glands can lead to bone loss.
  4. Poor Nutrition: A diet lacking high-nutrient foods leads to many health conditions including osteoporosis. Adequate amounts of calcium and Vitamin D are essential in the prevention of osteoporosis.
  5. Prescription Drugs and Medications: Many types of prescription drugs and medications inhibit the regeneration of bone tissue which leads to osteoporosis.
  6. Sedentary Lifestyle: People who spend a lot of time sitting are highly susceptible to the disease. Activity like walking and weightlifting help build dense and healthy bones.
  7. Excessive Alcohol Consumption: Alcohol interferes with the body’s ability to absorb nutrients like calcium.
  8. Tobacco Use: Research shows tobacco use contributes to the weakening of bones.

Our Method of Treating Osteoporosis

Chiropractic health care focuses on the health of the body’s central nervous system. Doctors of chiropractic are trained to identify and treat problems with the nerves of the human body. When your central nervous system is healthy, all systems of the body are working properly.

In addition to optimizing the health of the central nervous system, we provide patients with essential guidance on nutrition and exercise. All of which are critical in addressing osteoporosis.

The best feature about chiropractic care is that it does not use over-the-counter medications or expensive prescription drugs. It is safe and effective.

Restless-Leg-Syndrome

“I am 81 years old and had a lot of constant pain. The tests and x-rays showed osteoporosis, scoliosis and osteoarthritis. My medical doctor told me all this caused high blood pressure and prescribed a blood pressure pill.

I began to get completely bent over and had to walk sideways. I would visit the YMCA two or three times per week and exercise in the pool which would help loosen me up.

My daughter made an appointment for me at Baker Chiropractic. My first visit showed my x-ray was a mess.

I am now showing improvements and have faith in this health care practice. I can drive and I can live on my own. Without these caring and dedicated people, I would be in a nursing home. God Bless them!”
