Scoliosis is an abnormal curving of the spine from side to side. When viewed from the rear, a normal spine has a straight vertical alignment. A person with this condition will have a spine in the shape of an ‘S’ or a ‘C’ when viewed from the rear.
The exact cause of this health condition usually cannot be determined. When the cause is unknown, it is referred to as idiopathic scoliosis.
It affects more adolescent girls than boys. The abnormal curving may get worse during growth spurts.
At Baker Chiropractic and Wellness, we have been helping patients with scoliosis for over 20 years.
Using our safe and effective chiropractic care, we have developed a respected reputation for providing our patients with effective treatment for scoliosis. Please contact us at (513) 561-2273 or Schedule an Appointment here on our website. We may be able to help you or your child too!

Types of Scoliosis

There are several types of scoliosis:

1.  Idiopathic: As described above, this is scoliosis without an exact cause. This type is grouped by age into the following:

Infantile: Idiopathic scoliosis in children ages 3 and under.

Juvenile: Idiopathic scoliosis in children between the ages of 4 and 10.

Adolescent: Idiopathic scoliosis in older children between the ages of 11-18.

Adult: Idiopathic scoliosis in a person older than 18 years of age.

2.  Congenital: This type is present at birth. It occurs when a baby’s spine does not form properly.

3.  Neuromuscular: This type is caused by nervous system problem that affects muscles of the body.

4.  Degenerative: This type occurs after a trauma to the spine (injury or illness), back surgery or osteoporosis.

It’s been estimated that 65% of cases are idiopathic scoliosis, 15% are congenital, 10% are neuromuscular and 10% are degenerative.

Scoliosis is not a condition that brings with it a lot of symptoms. In fact, there are usually no symptoms associated with it. Some things to be aware of include:
  1. Uneven hips or shoulders (one shoulder or hip may be higher than the other shoulder or hip).
  2. Noticeable curve to one side in the spine.
  3. Aching in the spinal area after sitting or standing for an extended period of time.
  4. Low back pain.

Because scoliosis is more prevalent during the childhood years, it’s important to have your child tested. This is a quick and painless process. The earlier scoliosis is detected, the more effective the treatment. Failure to treat this health condition can lead to significant deformity as well as problems with the heart and lungs.
Please call us at (513) 561-2273 or Schedule an Appointment here on our website to have your child or children tested.

Our Chiropractic Care and Scoliosis

The practice of chiropractic health care focuses on the health of the body’s spine and central nervous system. Doctors of chiropractic are specially trained physicians that identify and treat problems with the spine. When your spine and central nervous system are healthy, you will be free from pain and healthy too. The best feature about chiropractic care is that it does not use prescription drugs or surgery to treat health care problems.
Chiropractic care removes subluxations which impact nerves and inhibit the body’s very power and innate ability to heal. Chiropractic care also corrects alignment and curvature of the spine using safe and effective chiropractic adjustments administered by a chiropractor. When it comes to dealing with conditions affecting the spine such as scoliosis, the physicians at Baker Chiropractic and Wellness have the training and experience you need.
