Leg pain has many different causes; for many, it’s just a passing twinge of pain. And treating leg pain with chiropractic care is no less than a myth for many. Persistent pain should never be taken lightly, and while the cause may be insignificant as a minor passing cramp, leg pain can signify something more significant. If you notice a pattern in leg pain, seek a professional opinion as soon as possible.
Chiropractors use gentle and effective spinal adjustments to align your spine, which eases the pressure from the nerves, allowing the nervous system to function as it should, alleviating the leg pain

Type of leg pain

There are three types of leg pain:

Musculoskeletal

This refers to pain involving one or more elements of the musculoskeletal system, which incorporates the body’s bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Common causes of musculoskeletal pain contain bruising, bone fractures, overuse injuries, infections, ligament strains, muscle strains, and tendonitis.

Neurological

Neurological leg pain is linked to the body’s nerves. Common causes include restless legs syndrome, neuropathy, and sciatic nerve pain.

Vascular

Circumstances affecting the blood vessels can also take to leg pain. The most common causes of leg pain are peripheral artery disease, deep vein thrombosis, varicose veins, cellulitis, and infections. Sometimes, a problem in a different body part will cause leg pain. Sciatica is often triggered by pressure on the sciatic nerve in the lower back but yields pain in the legs.
Frequent causes of leg pain
Diagnosing the reason behind leg pain can be challenging because there are so many different points that could be causing it-from nocturnal leg cramps to arthritis in the knee. Other common causes are:
  • Muscle cramps
  • Dehydration
  • Side effects of medications
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Muscle strain or fatigue
  • Injury to joint, tendon, ligament, or muscle
  • Damage to ankles, hips, or knees
  • Poor biomechanics
  • Subluxations
  • Disc problems and more
When there is dysfunction in the ankles, hips, or knees, the body cannot move properly, which causes the entire biomechanics of the spine to be altered, resulting in increased spinal muscle tension and nerve compression. Subluxations, disc degeneration, a bulging disc, or even osteoarthritis can cause pain in the legs by compressing the spinal nerves, which start in the low back and travel down into the legs and feet.

Leg Pain and Chiropractic Care

Usually, medical treatment of leg pain varies depending on the diagnosis. Pain control is usually the main focus of treatment and can include different pain medications, stretching, rehabilitation exercise, rest, and ice or heat therapy.

At Baker chiropractic care, we get great results for those suffering from leg pain. As chiropractors, our primary approach to dealing with leg pain will be to identify the root cause of your pain and work to correct the underlying cause. Once we have identified the underlying cause of your problem, we will work with you to fix the cause, not just mask the problem as pain medication does.

If you do not realize and fix the cause of your problem, it will get worse and can lead to surgery. Misalignments of the spinal bones put pressure on the nerves and can cause pain and interfere with the nervous system.

Chiropractic for Sciatica is a proven way to treat and eliminate sciatic nerve pain effectively. Too often, when dealing with sciatica, people use pain medications, injections, therapy, or even surgery only to find that the immediate pain relief they experienced went away and their sciatica came back, sometimes even worse.

How can chiropractors treat leg pain?

During your initial consultation with a chiropractor at our Baker chiropractic care, we will ask many of the same questions as a general practitioner. This information will help us understand if the issue pain is localized or non-localized.
The chiropractor will then perform a physical examination. This test will look for any irregularity in the musculoskeletal system that may raise your leg pain. We may also recommend an x-ray or other tests to thoroughly assess your musculoskeletal system’s condition.
Chiropractors use a comprehensive approach that can include physical therapy, dietary changes, and exercise practices. This is in addition to various safe and non-invasive treatments, including joint adjustment and soft tissue massage. These treatments are beneficial and are correct for treating the “root cause” of leg pain instead of just the symptoms.
While some people may experience sciatic pain radiating from the lower back to their feet, it can be isolated to just a segment of that area for others. Either way, chiropractic is often the most effective way to deal with sciatica for everlasting correction of the problem and not simply a quick fix.
