Safe Adjustments to Remove Subluxations, Soothing Therapies to Restore Movement

back massageIn addition to the chiropractic care we provide, we also incorporate physical therapy (physiotherapy) and massage therapy into our treatment. When an area of the body has been impacted by the negative effects of a subluxation, that area of the body is typically not able to function fully and move completely. As we safely remove the subluxations with a series of precision adjustments, we compliment those adjustments with physical therapy and massage therapy to restore the movement, motion and proper function that was depleted by the subluxation.

A good example of this is a person who suffers from lower back pain for a period of time. Because of that pain, the person is not able to bend over and touch their toes. Muscles and tendons tighten which limits and restricts movement. When the proper chiropractic adjustments are performed and correct therapies are administered, the pain in the lower back goes away due to the chiropractic adjustments and the person is now able to bend over and touch their toes once again because of the therapy.

At Baker Chiropractic, we use a variety of painless tools and techniques to administer physiotherapy and massage therapy including:
1. Ultrasound: Ultrasound generates high frequency sound waves that are delivered to a specific body area. These sound waves travel deep inside tissue and generate a soothing and gentle heat. The warmth stimulates blood flow to the tissues in that area of the body which delivers precious and much needed oxygen and nutrients.

2. Electrical Muscle Stimulation: Electrical Muscle Stimulation is a process where electrical impulses are delivered through electrodes placed on the skin to a muscle or group of muscles. The impulses stimulate the muscle and cause it to contract, move and strengthen.

3. Mechanical Traction: Mechanical Traction is used to gently stretch muscles and provide increase the range of motion and movement.

4. Therapeutic Exercises: Therapeutic Exercise involves a broad range of activities from very passive and easy exercises to high speed drills. Our doctors and therapists are specially trained to select specific therapeutic exercises customized for a patient’s age, abilities, endurance and injury.

5. Cold Laser Therapy: Cold Laser Therapy uses low level laser or light-emitting diodes to stimulate cell function.

6. Myofascial Release: Myofascial Release is performed by applying gentle and sustained pressure into the myofascial tissue and releasing uneven tightness in that tissue. It’s a specialized stretching technique.

7. Trigger Point Therapy: A Trigger Point is a small patch of tightly contracted muscle that occurs throughout the body. These trigger points can cause a lot of discomfort. Trigger Point Therapy applies carefully directed pressure and massage to relieve these trigger point areas.

8. Muscle Injury Release Technique (MIRT): MIRT is a revolutionary technique co-developed by Drs. Paul and Patrick Baker specifically for treating muscle injuries. MIRT has a ninety percent (90%) success rate and has been particularly effective for treating sports-related muscle injuries.  Many professional athletes have benefited from this unique treatment.
