Relief From Headaches & Migraines
Nearly everyone will suffer an occasional headache, and most are manageable. However, if you experience frequent or persistent headaches, it is worth understanding what may be contributing to them.
A lot of people treat their headaches with over-the-counter medications. Often times, the use of these medications increases dramatically. You may have started out by taking two pills or capsules per day, but over time, the dosage doubles or triples as your symptoms get worse. Over-the-counter headache medications are expensive and they only treat the symptom of headache pain. There is an underlying problem that is causing the headaches and no amount of medication will correct the problem.
The doctors at Baker Chiropractic and Wellness emphasize understanding the root cause of the headaches and providing patients with safe and effective treatments. Our care and disease headaches pain. We also can recommend prescription medications or over-the-counter medication.
If you are experiencing intense or frequent headaches, please call us at (513) 561-2273 or schedule an appointment on our website. We may be able to help you reduce your headaches pain.
Headaches can have different causes and patterns. A proper evaluation can help determine what may be contributing to your symptoms and which next steps are appropriate.
What Type of Headache Do You Suffer From?
It is important to understand just which type of headache you are experiencing. Since it can be difficult to know, our team can help you understand the types of headaches and discuss appropriate next steps.
Common Headache
This is a very general type of headache and is the most common. A common headache is dull, throbbing pain in any area of your head. This type of headache can vary in intensity from mild pain to very severe pain.
Migraine
A migraine headache is a specific type of headache that is severe and debilitating. Migraines can be so severe that they greatly impact your ability to function. Migraines are more common in women than in men. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, and throbbing pain.
Chronic Headache
Chronic headaches are headaches that occur daily or almost daily. If they occur more than 15 days per month, it is considered a chronic headache.
Tension Headache
Tension headaches are related to muscle contractions and usually feel like a band or pressure around the head. They may be associated with stress or tension.
Cluster Headache
Cluster headaches are episodes of extreme headache pain that occur periodically. These headaches may be accompanied by watery eyes, nasal congestion or other symptoms.
Sinus Headaches or Sinus Infection Headaches
A sinus headache is caused by pressure in the sinus cavities. It may be associated with sinus congestion, inflammation and pressure around the eyes, cheeks or forehead.
Medication Headaches
Medication headaches can be caused by the use or overuse of medications. A medication headache can feel like a persistent headache or a rebound headache.
Toxic Headaches
Toxic headaches are caused by exposure to some types of toxins. These may be associated with environmental or chemical exposure.

What Research Supports
For many muscle, joint and spine problems, clinical guidelines recommend conservative, non-drug care first. Exercise, staying active and hands-on care may all be part of a plan.

For many muscle, joint and spine conditions, clinical guidelines recommend trying conservative, non-surgical care first, unless there are warning signs.
- Exercise and staying active are a key part of care for most of these conditions.
- Hands-on care, such as chiropractic adjustments, joint mobilisation and soft tissue work, may help some patients, mainly when combined with exercise.
- Imaging such as X-rays or MRI is not needed for everyone. It is used when your exam shows it is likely to change your care.
- The strength of the research differs by condition. For some conditions the evidence is stronger, and for others it is more limited. We explain this honestly when we discuss your plan.
What Our Exam Measures
Depending on your symptoms, your exam may check movement, range of motion, strength, sensation, reflexes and how your symptoms affect daily life. This gives you a clear starting point.

Every assessment at Baker follows four steps: Measure → Explain → Plan → Reassess.
Measure. Based on your needs, your exam may include:
- Your health history, symptoms and goals
- Orthopedic and neurological tests, such as reflexes, strength and sensation
- Range of motion of the affected area
- Muscle strength, comparing both sides
- A posture, movement or walking check
- X-rays, only when your exam shows they are needed
Explain. We go through your findings in plain language and give you a written summary to take home.
Plan. Each part of your plan is linked to something we measured.
Reassess. At set check-points, we repeat key measurements so you can compare your progress with your starting point.
What the Measurement Cannot Tell Us
No single test can explain every cause of pain or predict a recovery time. We read your results together with your history and how you feel day to day.
Learn More →
Measurements help us understand how your body is working, but they have limits:
- An X-ray shows bones and joints. It does not show how much pain you feel.
- Many people have changes on an X-ray or MRI and no pain at all.
- Range-of-motion and strength numbers show how you move and function. They do not measure pain directly.
- A test result or scan is one piece of information. It is not proof that pain is cured.
That's why we never base your care on one test alone. We combine your exam, your history and your own report of how you are doing.
When We Refer to Another Doctor
Some conditions need medical care first. If your symptoms or exam suggest it, we will refer you to the right doctor or specialist.
Read Warning Signs →
We will refer you, or ask you to get medical care, if you have:
- Pain after a serious fall, accident or injury
- Numbness, tingling or weakness that is getting worse
- Fever, unexplained weight loss or a history of cancer
- A joint that is red, hot and swollen
- Severe pain at night or at rest that does not change with position
- Symptoms that are not improving after a fair trial of care
If chiropractic care is not right for your condition, we will tell you honestly. We are also happy to work alongside your medical doctor, physical therapist or specialist.
Get emergency medical care right away for: loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the groin or inner thighs, sudden or worsening weakness, a sudden severe headache, chest pain, or trouble speaking, seeing or walking. Do not wait for a chiropractic visit.
Results Vary from Person to Person
Results depend on your condition, how long you have had symptoms, your general health, your activity and how you respond to care. No outcome or recovery time is guaranteed.
Learn More →
Chiropractic care may help appropriately selected patients manage certain muscle, joint and spine symptoms, move better and return to their activities. But every person is different. How quickly you improve can depend on:
- Your condition and how long you have had it
- Your work, activity level and sleep
- Your general health
- How well you can follow your home exercises
Some conditions need medical evaluation or care from more than one provider. That's why we re-check your progress at set points, instead of promising results.
